Budgam, Aug 05 (KNO): The residents of Dobimohalla in Sogam area of Chadoora in Central Kashmir's Budgam district on Wednesday staged a protest against the Jal Shakti department for failing to provide adequate water supply to them.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the protesting residents accused the department of ignoring their plights, saying that the womenfolk from the area are being forced to walk miles to fetch water from faraway places for daily use. They said that the residents in the area have been facing immense hardships due to the water crisis for more than four months now and they are being forced to consume contaminated water as nobody is paying heed to their sufferings.

“Amid the ongoing pandemic we are being forced to consume contaminated water every day, which puts us at high risk of contracting diseases but no one from administration is paying heed to our sufferings,” he said. The protesters later appealed to the district administration to look into the matter. Meanwhile, Executive Engineer Chadoora couldn’t be contacted for the comments as he didn't receive calls from this reporter. However, an official from the department assured that the grievances of the locals will be redressed soon and water supply to the area will be restored as soon as possible—(KNO)
